1900-O VAM-13

Description

George Mallis discovered VAM-13 in June 1965, classifying it as III2 7 · C3k, entry 181 — Near Date, Doubled 19-0. On the obverse (III2 7), the date punching was set further left than normal, producing the "near date" characteristic. Within that date, the 1 displays a short horizontal spike below the upper crossbar; the 9 is doubled at the top inside of its upper loop and slightly at the bottom outside; and the second 0 carries strong doubling at the bottom outside. The 9 has a closed-loop form. On the reverse (C3k), the III-style O mintmark is tilted to the right and positioned right of center. The 1900-O Morgan Dollar is a New Orleans 90% silver issue; its generous mintage keeps circulated examples plentiful, but VAM-13 with confirmed near-date positioning and the doubled-digit markers is a distinct attribution. VAM-13 and VAM-13A were struck from identical die pairs, making stage-based documentation the primary tool for separating the two varieties in practice. =1900-O VAM-13 Near Date, Doubled 19-0= Discovered by George Mallis, June 1965.
