1891-P VAM-16

Description

VAM-16 was identified in 2014, classified III2 14 · C3a — Doubled Ear, Cotton Leaf and Profile. On the obverse (III2 14), the doubling affects three separate anatomical zones: the lower left and right inside of the ear and the earlobe are slightly doubled; the lower left edge of the cotton leaf shows doubling; and Liberty's profile from nose to jaw is very slightly doubled — a broad but subtle doubling event. A confirming die marker is a scattering of fine dots and polishing lines at the jaw-neck junction, providing a localized reference point for attribution. IMPORTANT: This variety is cataloged as a "2 for 1" and has not actually been discovered yet. The SSDC (Society of Silver Dollar Collectors) will support it when a confirmed specimen is found to exist. Collectors and attributors should understand that VAM-16 remains in the speculative category — no confirmed example has been documented — and attributions claiming VAM-16 status should be treated with appropriate skepticism until the variety is formally verified through SSDC review. The 1891-P Morgan Dollar is a 90% silver Philadelphia Mint issue.
