Error
Description
Carrying the prestigious Kimpton 12 designation — one of twelve Morgan Dollar VAMs singled out by researcher Mark Kimpton for their significance — this variety was discovered by Kimpton himself in June 2005. Designated 2A III21 C3b (High O, Clashed Obverse G & t) with rarity 181, the obverse shows a clashed die with faint partial incuse G of God next to Liberty's neck and partial incuse t of Trust in the right hair vee. Two die states are recognized: 2A1 and late die state 2A2 with a radial die crack and displaced field break. At least one specimen is known with unlistable rim cuds on the obverse from about 5:00 to 7:00. The Kimpton 12 Morgans represent a curated subset selected by an authority whose study of Morgan dies brought focus to varieties that might otherwise be overlooked. New Orleans Morgans from 1890 saw substantial production, yet this die pairing stands apart through its expert-recognized Kimpton designation.
