Description

Jason Keefer discovered this Philadelphia Morgan dollar in August 2013, classified 5E III2 5 with a C3a reverse, designated Far Date, Denticle Impressions at Wreath Bow. The obverse positions the date farther from Liberty's bust than standard placement. Die polishing lines at the back of the jaw-neck junction serve as the obverse marker. The reverse C3a holds the most intriguing feature: two raised dots at the right of the wreath bow separated by 0.025 inches, matching denticle row spacing. A possible third dot appears at the top left outside of the bow, with a possible die edge scratch to the left. These impressions suggest the die contacted another manufacturing component that transferred the evenly spaced pattern.
