Description

1881-S VAM-9 Doubled & Spiked 8's Discovered by Richard Deters, February 1973. 9(revised) III26 · C3a (Doubled & Spiked 8's) (186) Obverse III26– Both 8's have short die chip spike at top left inside of upper loop. Left 8 slightly doubled on lower right surface of lower loop. Right 8 strongly doubled at bottom right inside of upper loop. Top of Phrygian cap slightly doubled. Emission Sequence Obverse: 1881-S VAM-38, 1881-S VAM-9 Reverse: Comments: This exact same obverse die is shared with 1881-S VAM-9, 1881-S VAM-10 & 1881-S VAM-38. The doubling of the top of the cap is VERY weak.
