Error
Description
1881-P VAM-2 Dash Under 8 Discovered by George Mallis, June 1965. 2 III2 2 - C3a (Dash Under 8) Obverse III2 2 - A dash appears below the second 8 in the date. Reverse C3a - Normal dies. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: According to Jeff Oxman, the dash below 8 are left-over alignment marks used to set the date position and not fully polished off the die. This has the exact same obverse as the 1881-P VAM-20 but is earlier (No die chip on cap and still has the dash below the 2nd 8).
