Description
Hoyt Warren discovered this Carson City Morgan dollar in March 1973, with the listing revised in 2006. Cataloged as VAM-10 (revised) under classification III2 7 with a C3c reverse, titled Dash Under 8, Doubled 88, it carries a rarity rating of 177. The left 8 displays horizontal polishing lines on the right inside of the upper loop and doubling at the top inside of the lower loop. The right 8 shows a short dash just below the bottom outside and doubling at the lower left outside of the upper loop, creating the dash-under-8 diagnostic that names the variety. A short vertical die scratch on the upper lip marks the obverse die. The reverse C3c die exhibits polishing roughness around some legend letters. Carson City Morgan dollars command strong collector interest owing to the mint's limited 1870-1893 operational period, and VAM varieties from this facility attract specialists who prize the CC mintmark. Notably, this variety is available in Deep Mirror Proof Like condition, adding another dimension of collectibility for those seeking the combination of a scarce die pairing with exceptional surface quality. =1880-CC VAM-10 Dash Under 8, Doubled 88= Discovered by Hoyt Warren, March 1973.
