1879-P VAM-20A Doubled Date, Die Scratches Lower Hair Discovered by Ron Fischer, September 2006. Revised 2013 20A (revised) III2 20 · C3a (Doubled Date, Die Scratches Lower Hair & Reverse) (179) Obverse III2 20 – Heavy diagonal die scratches in space between hair locks above 7. Some lite diagonal polishing lines in field at jaw-neck junction. Reverse C3a – Random heavy die die polishing/scratches at lower wreaths and bow plus In God We Trust. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: Later die state of 1879-P VAM-20 (IF the VAM-20 really exists). There are 2 die states of the 1879-P 20A. EDS as pictured below. LDS has extensive die polish lines on the reverse. There is an evil mimic of the gouges at the neck! The line in the left wing that's pictured below isn't present on the earliest stage of this reverse. Other markers confirm it's the same die.
