Description
1878-P VAM-14.10 8TF Doubled Lower Hair and Date Discovered by Jeff Oxman, June 1990. 14-10(revised) I15 · A1k (Doubled Lower Hair and Date) (188) Reverse A1k– Slight doubling of lower and left side of wreath, olive leaves and bottom of eagle’s right wing. Slightly doubled bottom inside of UNITED STATES, ONE top inside and In God We Trust top. Three small feathers added on eagle’s right and two on left side between leg and bottom of wing. Reverse is shared with 1878 VAM 14.1 DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: The 1878 VAM-14.10 is an 8 Tailfeather Morgan w/ the A1k reverse, which is shared by VAM-14.1. The key to separate this from the common 1878-P VAM-14.1 is to locate the large die crack through the bonnet. Note: VAM 14.3 also has the bonnet crack, but it is less severe and not the A1k reverse.
