Description

A die clash is visible on both sides of this 1867/67 overdate Indian Head cent. A die clash occurs when the obverse and reverse dies strike each other without a planchet between them. On the obverse, part of the "C" from CENT and the wreath are clashed in front of the Indian's face. On the reverse, the Indian's nose and forehead are visible from the wreath area through the "C" in CENT. The 1867/67 overdate variety shows clear evidence of the date being repunched, with traces of the underlying "67" visible beneath the final date. This is one of the more dramatic date varieties in the Indian Head cent series.
