Description
Judd-355b is a compositional variant of J-355, struck on a planchet of different metallic content. The "b" suffix indicates the second alternative composition for this die combination, aluminum or another experimental alloy. The existence of multiple compositions for a single business-strike die pair demonstrates the thoroughness of the 1864 testing program. Each variant provided data on how the dies performed in different metals under normal production-speed striking conditions. Cataloged as PCGS #70522.
Rarity Notes
Rarity-7. Scarcer than the standard J-355. Approximately 5-8 specimens known.
