Description
A Gold Dollar from the Philadelphia Mint, the 1860 Liberty Gold Dollar belongs to the Large Indian Princess Head Gold Dollars 1856-1889 series. With a mintage of 36,514, this is a less common issue — the highest mintage among 3 variants, accounting for 71% of the year's production. The obverse features a female figure wearing a feathered headdress, representing Liberty in the guise of a Native American princess with a larger, more detailed head design and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing the denomination 1 DOLLAR. Charlotte struck its final gold dollars before the Civil War. The 1860-D (estimated 1,000 struck) is extremely rare. Coined at the Philadelphia facility, the nation's original mint that has operated continuously since its 1792 founding. Estimated market value ranges from $466 to $1.6K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 1.7 grams, 14.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
