Description
The 1855 (D) Liberty Gold Dollar is a Gold Dollar produced at the Dahlonega Mint as part of the Small Indian Princess Head Gold Dollars 1854-1856 series. With a mintage of 1,811, this is an extremely rare issue — the lowest mintage among 4 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features a female figure wearing a feathered headdress, representing Liberty in the guise of a Native American princess with a smaller head design and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing the denomination 1 DOLLAR. The 1855-C (Charlotte, mintage 9,803) and 1855-D (Dahlonega, mintage 1,811) are major rarities. The 1855-D is one of the rarest regular-issue U.S. gold coins. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $22K to $155K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 1.7 grams, 14.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7534.
