Description
Part of the Indian Princess Three Dollars 1854-1889 series, the 1854 (O) Indian Princess Three Dollar is a dollar from the New Orleans Mint. With a mintage of 24,000, this is a less common issue — ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 15% of production. The obverse features a female figure wearing a feathered headdress, representing Liberty in the guise of a Native American princess, similar to but distinct from the gold dollar design and the reverse displays a wreath of tobacco, wheat, corn, and cotton enclosing the denomination 3 DOLLARS and date. First year of the three dollar denomination. Philadelphia, Dahlonega, and New Orleans all struck coins. The 1854-D (mintage 1,120) is a major rarity. The New Orleans Mint operated from 1838 to 1909, producing coins valued for their Southern historical provenance. Estimated market value ranges from $3.1K to $120K depending on grade and condition.
