Description
The 1806 Draped Bust Quarter, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, is part of the Draped Bust Quarters 1796-1807 collection. The U.S. Mint produced 206,124 examples, making this the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Liberty facing right with draped bust and ribbon-bound hair, designed after a Gilbert Stuart portrait and the reverse displays a small, naturalistic eagle perched on a palm branch within a wreath (1796) or a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM (1804-1807). Multiple die varieties including the 6 over 5 overdate. Relatively higher mintage for the series. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $678 to $31K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 89.2% silver, 10.8% copper, weighing 6.74 grams, 27.5 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #5314.
