Description

The 1796 Silver Medal Castorland - Original was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a medal in the Post-1776 Private and Regional Issues (1778-1820) series. Produced during the earliest years of the United States Mint, when the young republic was establishing its monetary system and coinage traditions. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Auction record: $40,250 • MS63 • 01-2015 • Heritage Auctions.
