About This Coin
The 1795 Flowing Hair Half Dollar is a United States half dollar from the Flowing Hair Half Dollars 1794-1795 series — the final year of the series. In 1795, coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint with a combined mintage of 1.8 million. The obverse features Liberty facing right with flowing hair, surrounded by stars and the reverse displays a small, naturalistic eagle perched on a palm branch within a wreath. Second and final year of the Flowing Hair Half Dollar. Higher mintage makes it more accessible than the 1794. The 1795/1794 overdate variety exists. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 13.48 grams, 32.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered: fifty cents or half a dollar edge. Collectors have identified one known die variety for this date (cud). Across its variants, estimated values range from $3.1K to $43K depending on mint mark, grade, and strike type. A notable auction result reached $348K in MS64+ grade at Heritage Auctions. Designed by Robert Scot.
