Description
The 1794 Flowing Hair Half Dollar is a half dollar minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the Flowing Hair Half Dollars 1794-1795 series. With a mintage of 23,464, this is a scarce issue. The obverse features Liberty facing right with flowing hair, surrounded by stars and the reverse displays a small, naturalistic eagle perched on a palm branch within a wreath. First year of the U.S. half dollar. Only 23,464 struck. The 1794 is rare in all grades and highly sought as a first-year type coin. Estimated market value ranges from $4.3K to $87K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 13.48 grams, 32.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered: fifty cents or half a dollar edge. Cataloged as PCGS #6051.
