The 1793 Flowing Hair Chain Cent is a United States cent from the Flowing Hair Chain Cents 1793 series — the only year of issue. In 1793, coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint with a combined mintage of 108,309. The obverse features Liberty facing right with flowing hair, surrounded by stars and the reverse displays a chain of 15 links representing the states of the Union. Produced during the earliest years of the United States Mint, when the young republic was establishing its monetary system and coinage traditions.
