Description
The 1793 Chain Cent - America, Without Periods, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, is part of the Flowing Hair Chain Cents 1793 collection. With a mintage of 36,103, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 33% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing right with flowing hair, surrounded by stars and the reverse displays a chain of 15 links representing the states of the Union. Produced during the earliest years of the United States Mint, when the young republic was establishing its monetary system and coinage traditions. Coined at the Philadelphia facility, the nation's original mint that has operated continuously since its 1792 founding.
