Perhaps the most famous and most sought-after variety in the entire Connecticut copper series, the 1787 "Laughing Head" halfpenny is cataloged as Miller 6.1-M and Whitman 2855, identified as PCGS #358. The nickname derives from the obverse portrait, which features a mailed bust with an upturned mouth that gives the distinct impression of a face laughing or smiling — an expression unique among the otherwise stoic portraits found on Connecticut and other state coppers.
