Description

First documented die clash and atypical die clash variety for the 2026 Philadelphia Enduring Liberty Half Dollar, one of the Semiquincentennial circulating commemorative designs marking the 250th anniversary of American independence. Very strong obverse and reverse die clashing is evident, where the obverse and reverse dies struck each other without a planchet between them, transferring incuse impressions of each die's design onto the opposing die face. The "atypical" designation indicates the clash occurred with the dies in an abnormal orientation or under unusual mechanical conditions, producing transfer marks in non-standard positions relative to the normal striking alignment.
