2024-D VDDR VDDR-001

Description
Bearing medium northward spread on central banner stripes 7 and 9 of the Shield reverse, this 2024-D Lincoln cent VDDR-001 was cataloged by VarietyVista as the premier doubled die reverse variety for the Denver Mint's 2024 production. The provisional UVC-???? and DMR-00? markers indicate this is a recently attributed variety still awaiting full integration into the coding system. Three die stages have been documented with an unusual characteristic: at Stage A, the reverse is already at early die state while a light die crack on Lincoln's forehead is visible even at EDS, suggesting the obverse die entered service with pre-existing stress from the manufacturing or hardening process. Stages B and C at mid and late die state remain unconfirmed. The northward spread direction on the shield stripes means the secondary hub impression appears above the primary stripe lines, creating a doubling effect along the top edges of stripes 7 and 9 that is best observed under side lighting with a 10x loupe. The 2024-D cent represents the latest in an unbroken run of Denver Mint Lincoln cent production dating back to 1911, and the Shield reverse's thirteen stripes continue to generate documented doubled die varieties every year since the design's 2010 introduction. The early appearance of a forehead crack at Stage A is noteworthy because die cracks typically develop during mid to late die state as accumulated striking stress fatigues the steel. A crack present from the earliest known strikes suggests either a manufacturing defect in the die or damage sustained during shipping, handling, or installation in the coining press. This obverse marker, combined with the reverse doubling, provides a two-sided attribution approach that strengthens identification confidence.
