2020 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as the second doubled die reverse for the 2020 Lincoln Shield Cent, WDDR-002 exhibits moderate doubling as extra thickness on the designer's initials LB — the mark of Lyndall Bass, whose Union Shield reverse has appeared on Lincoln Cents since 2010. The initials sit at the base of the shield, and the doubling adds visible thickness apparent under moderate magnification. A die gouge to the left of the upper G in GOD on the obverse provides a secondary die marker, linking the reverse die state to a specific obverse pairing. The DDR designation indicates the hubbing misalignment occurred during creation of the reverse die rather than the obverse, which is less commonly documented than obverse doubling on Lincoln Cents. The 2020 cent was struck on copper-plated zinc planchets at both Philadelphia and Denver. Moderate doubling on designer initials represents a focused displacement that can be confirmed by comparing the thickness of L and B against normal specimens.
