2019 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-006

Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team as 2019 1¢ WDDR-006, this doubled die reverse variety on a 2019 Lincoln Shield cent presents the notable characteristic of sharing its obverse die with a listed doubled die obverse, specifically 2019 1¢ WDDO-031. This dual-variety die pairing makes the coin particularly appealing to variety collectors, as a single specimen can exhibit both obverse and reverse hub doubling. The coin was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in copper-plated zinc, weighing 2.5 grams with a 19 mm diameter. Obverse die markers include die chips above the R of LIBERTY, corresponding to the WDDO-031 obverse die. On the reverse, die gouges are present within and below the ME of AMERICA, a die scratch extends from the top of the I in UNITED toward the rim, a possible die chip appears just right of the middle of the T in UNITED, and a small die chip is positioned well southeast of the B in LB (the designer's initials for Lyndall Bass). The union shield reverse design introduced in 2010 features horizontal and vertical lines, a banner reading ONE CENT, and surrounding inscriptions that provide ample detail where hub doubling can be detected.
