Description

The 2018 (S) Block Island National Park Quarter is a quarter from the San Francisco Mint, belonging to the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The U.S. Mint produced 764,660 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 15 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts a black-crowned night-heron in flight over Cow Cove. Block Island protects critical coastal habitat recognized by The Nature Conservancy as one of the "Last Great Places" in the Western Hemisphere.
