2018 VDDR VDDR-006

Description

Sixth doubled die reverse cataloged by VarietyVista for the 2018 Philadelphia Block Island National Wildlife Refuge Quarter, VDDR-006 exhibits medium spread directed east, creating an extra tip on feather number seven from the bottom of the Black-crowned Night Heron design. The displaced feather tip provides a precise anatomical reference for attribution. Tracked with provisional codes UVC-???? and DMR-00? pending final assignment, the die progresses through three stages. Stage A is early die state, unconfirmed. Stage B places both reverse and obverse at early-to-mid die state, with a die break developing between the topmost feathers. Stage C is late die state, unconfirmed. The inter-feather die break at Stage B provides a reverse diagnostic independent of the doubling itself. Block Island was the final 2018 America the Beautiful Quarters issue, and Rhode Island's heron design offered unique biological detail where doubled die displacement created effects not found on any other quarter reverse in the program.
