2015 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-006
ErrorDescription
Significant extra thickness on the designer's initials LB (Lyndall Bass) and JFM (Joseph F. Menna) along with strong extra thickness on USA — with spread decreasing slightly from left to right — characterizes this sixth doubled die reverse for the 2015 Lincoln Shield Cent, attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 2015 1-cent WDDR-006. A die crack running across the top left of the shield north of PLU in PLURIBUS serves as the key reverse die marker, while no significant obverse markers were noted. The decreasing spread from left to right across USA suggests a pivoted or tilted hubbing misalignment where the displacement was greatest at the left side. The Lincoln Shield reverse, introduced in 2010, features a union shield with horizontal and vertical lines, the inscription E PLURIBUS UNUM across the shield, and ONE CENT below — providing multiple text and design elements for doubling detection. The designer's initials LB and JFM appear in small letters and are often among the first areas checked by variety searchers because initials tend to show doubling clearly due to their fine detail and proximity to the rim where hub misalignment is most pronounced.
