Description

Replacement listing for the original WDDR-007, which was reclassified after the initial attribution was determined to represent machine doubling rather than true hub doubling, this re-designated variety for the 2015-P New York America the Beautiful Quarter shows doubling inside the lower right opening in the handle of General Burgoyne's sword on the Saratoga National Historical Park reverse. Detailed die markers support definitive attribution: the obverse is in Late Die State (LDS) with a large die gouge visible at the neck right of the Y in LIBERTY. On the reverse, three large die gouges appear above Burgoyne's wrist, a die gouge sits left of the bottom of the S in SURRENDER, and multiple die gouges scatter between the E and N in SURRENDER. The Saratoga reverse commemorates the 1777 British surrender that proved pivotal in securing French alliance during the American Revolution. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID: 2015-P 25¢ NY WDDR-007, the replacement listing history is itself instructive — it demonstrates the rigorous self-correcting nature of variety attribution, where initial classifications are revised when closer examination reveals machine doubling rather than genuine hub doubling.
