2014 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

Sharing the same Wexler cross-reference as its Position A counterpart but distinguished by edge-lettering orientation, the 2014 Philadelphia Calvin Coolidge Position B WDDR-001 carries edge inscriptions that read normally when the coin is held with the reverse facing up. This Position B alignment results from a different collar die orientation during striking. The doubled die reverse shows the same diagnostic: doubling at the intersection of the second ray clockwise from Liberty's head and her right arm on Don Everhart's common reverse design shared by all Presidential Dollars. Reverse die markers include a small die gouge between the tops of the S and T in STATES and another below the right side of the M in AMERICA. Calvin Coolidge, who ascended to the presidency upon Warren Harding's death in 1923 and won election in 1924, was honored in the 2014 Presidential Dollar release alongside Harding, Roosevelt, and Hoover. The manganese-brass clad dollar was struck at Philadelphia. Position B collectors should verify both the reverse doubling diagnostics and edge-lettering orientation for proper attribution.
