Description

The 2014 (D) Arches National Park Quarter, struck at the Denver Mint, is part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 collection. The U.S. Mint produced 251.4 million examples, making this the highest mintage among 15 variants, accounting for 16% of the year's production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts Delicate Arch, a 65-foot freestanding natural sandstone arch, with the La Sal Mountains in the background. Arches National Park contains more than 2,000 natural stone arches, the greatest concentration in the world. Great Smoky Mountains (TN), Shenandoah (VA), Arches (UT), Great Sand Dunes (CO), and Everglades (FL) were honored. Great Smoky Mountains, the most visited national park, drew broad collector interest. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906.
