2013 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001
Error
Description
As the first cataloged doubled die reverse for the 2013 Lincoln Shield Cent, the WDDR-001 displays strong extra thickness on the lower letters of OF AMERICA and the designers' initials LB (Lyndall Bass) and JFM (Joseph F. Menna), who created the Shield Cent reverse design. Distortion also appears on the incuse letters of E PLURIBUS UNUM, which on the Shield Cent are recessed into the banner across the shield. Cross-referenced as Coppercoins 2013P-1DR-001 and CONECA 2-R-VIII, with the Class VIII designation indicating Tilted Hub Doubling. Die markers include some die cracks and die chips on the left side of the top edge of the shield on the reverse, with no significant obverse markers. The Shield Cent's distinctive design, featuring incuse motto lettering, creates an unusual doubled die effect where the extra thickness appears within the recessed channels rather than on raised elements — a characteristic unique to this modern Lincoln cent reverse.
