Description
Produced at the Denver Mint, the 2013 (D) Mount Rushmore National Park Quarter is part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The U.S. Mint produced 272.4 million examples, making this the highest mintage among 15 variants, accounting for 19% of the year's production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts workers adding sculptural details to Thomas Jefferson's face, showing the monument during construction. Mount Rushmore features the 60-foot carved faces of Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln. White Mountain (NH), Perry's Victory (OH), Great Basin (NV), Fort McHenry (MD), and Mount Rushmore (SD) were released. The Mount Rushmore quarter was among the most popular issues in the series. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $1 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #517204.
