2012 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002
Error
Description
This 2012 Lincoln Shield Cent carries the WDDR-002 doubled die reverse, with doubling visible on the lower letters in OF AMERICA increasing in strength from left to right, and also on the JFM designer initials. Die markers include a die chip at the top left of the shield above the E in E PLURIBUS UNUM and a die crack along the top of the shield above PLU in PLURIBUS. Attributed by the Wexler Team. The Lincoln Shield Cent reverse, introduced in 2010, features a prominent Union shield design. The JFM initials belong to the reverse designer and appear as small incuse letters on the design. The progressive increase in doubling strength from left to right across the OF AMERICA lettering reveals the directional mechanics of the hub displacement during die production, indicating the hub shifted with a slight pivot rather than a straight linear movement. This directional graduation helps variety specialists understand how the doubling was created.
