2012 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-005

Description

On the 2012-P Denali National Park Quarter, DDR-005 exhibits a strong spread to the west appearing as an extra back neck on the Dall sheep ram — one of the most visually striking doubled die diagnostics in the America the Beautiful series. The Denali reverse, designed by Susan Gamble, features a ram standing atop a rocky ridge with Mount McKinley in the background, and the animal's neck provides sufficient relief for the westward doubling to be clearly visible. Die markers include UVC-2101 and DMR-006. Of the three documented die stages, Stage A (EDS) and Stage B (MDS) remain unconfirmed, while Stage C is confirmed with both reverse and obverse in late die state. The confirmed late die state for Stage C suggests this die saw extended production use before being retired. Denali National Park, Alaska's crown jewel, inspired one of the more detailed animal portraits in the ATB program.
