Description

The 2012 Denali National Park Quarter WDDR-008 displays doubling on the back of the Dall sheep's neck — one of the most distinctive design elements on this Alaska-themed quarter featuring a ram standing atop a ridge with Denali (Mount McKinley) in the background. Attributed by the Wexler Team with variety ID 2012-P 25¢ AK WDDR-008, submitted by Daniel Ksycki, no significant die markers have been noted on either side. The Dall sheep's curved horns and muscular neck provide detailed surface contours where hub displacement creates detectable doubling, particularly along the neck's posterior where the animal's profile meets the mountain landscape background. Susan Gamble's reverse design for the Denali Quarter captures North America's tallest peak alongside its iconic wildlife, and doubled die varieties on the sheep's anatomy are among the more visually accessible identification features on this issue. The ATB quarter program's wildlife subjects consistently produce collectible doubled die varieties.
