Description

The 2011 (P) Olympic National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. With a mintage of 33,000, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 5 mint variants, representing only 20% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites — struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse depicts a Roosevelt elk on a gravel river bar along the Hoh River with Mount Olympus in the background. Olympic National Park encompasses three distinct ecosystems: glacier-capped mountains, old-growth temperate rainforest, and rugged Pacific coastline. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Auction record: $765 MS70 10-29-2019 eBay. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 155.5 grams, 76.2 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #507377.
