Description
The 2011 (D) Olympic National Park Quarter, struck at the Denver Mint, is part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 collection. The U.S. Mint produced 31.2 million examples, making this ranked 6th of 10 mint variants by mintage, with 8% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts a Roosevelt elk on a gravel river bar along the Hoh River with Mount Olympus in the background. Olympic National Park encompasses three distinct ecosystems: glacier-capped mountains, old-growth temperate rainforest, and rugged Pacific coastline. Gettysburg (PA), Glacier (MT), Olympic (WA), Vicksburg (MS), and Chickasaw (OK) were released. The Gettysburg and Vicksburg quarters resonated with Civil War history collectors. The Denver Mint, which grew from an 1860s gold rush assay office, has served as a major production facility since 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $1 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #505146.
