Description

The 2010 (P) Satin Finish Presidential Dollar - James Buchanan, Position A is a special strike dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 583,897 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 40 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The fifteenth President (1857–1861), James Buchanan remains the only president who never married. Widely regarded as one of the least effective presidents, he failed to prevent the secession crisis that led directly to the Civil War. Fillmore, Pierce, Buchanan, and Lincoln were honored. The Lincoln dollar drew strong collector interest due to the president's enduring popularity, but overall circulation demand continued to decline. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Auction record: $620 SP69 08-09-2021 eBay. Struck in 77% copper, 12% zinc, 1% other over a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #417276.
