The 2010 (D) Satin Finish Presidential Dollar - Franklin Pierce, Position A is a special strike dollar struck at the Denver Mint, part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 583,897 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 40 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The fourteenth President (1853–1857), Franklin Pierce is the only president to have recited his inaugural address entirely from memory. His signing of the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 inflamed sectional tensions over slavery and contributed to the bloodshed of "Bleeding Kansas." Fillmore, Pierce, Buchanan, and Lincoln were honored. The Lincoln dollar drew strong collector interest due to the president's enduring popularity, but overall circulation demand continued to decline.
