2009 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002
Error
Description
This entry represents a third database record for the 2009-P $1 SF JT WDDR-002 variety cataloged by the Wexler Team, documenting the same Statue of Liberty reverse doubling found on the right arm just above the sleeve of the robe. Because the Presidential Dollar program used a common reverse die design across all four presidential obverses issued each year, the same reverse doubled die could appear paired with different obverse portrait dies, potentially generating multiple database entries for what is fundamentally the same reverse die anomaly. The die marker profile matches the companion entries: obverse scratches in the field around the presidential portrait and a reverse die crack across the top of the lower three fingers on the left hand of the Statue of Liberty. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID: 2009-P $1 SF JT WDDR-002. The Presidential Dollar was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in manganese brass composition — 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, and 2% nickel — weighing 8.1 grams with a diameter of 26.5 mm. Don Everhart designed the Statue of Liberty common reverse depicting Liberty holding the torch and tablet, with incuse edge lettering carrying the date, mintmark, and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The existence of multiple database entries for this variety reflects the structural reality of the Presidential Dollar program, where a single reverse working die could theoretically be paired with obverse dies bearing different presidential portraits if die pairs were rotated during production runs, creating distinct coin types that share the same variety-bearing reverse die.
