2009-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-026

Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team as 2009-D 1¢ EC WDDR-026, this Denver Lincoln cent from the Early Childhood reverse design shows doubling on the top right of log end number seven. The variety closely resembles WDDR-013, requiring careful die marker comparison for proper separation. Obverse markers include a small die gouge northwest of the L in LIBERTY, a gouge inside the upper second zero of the date, and a gouge west-northwest of the mintmark. Reverse markers include a die scratch running north from the upper left first A in AMERICA, a vertical scratch between the upper I and C of AMERICA, a die crack running southwest to northeast through the cabin roof above the chimney, and a crack through the top right tip of the roof extending east-northeast into the field. Estimated values range from one dollar in AU to five dollars in MS-65. The 2009 Early Childhood design, part of the four-design Lincoln Bicentennial program, saw limited circulation as most coins went directly into storage, making varieties from this issue harder to locate through pocket change.
