2009-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-020
Error
Description
Carrying published value estimates of five dollars in AU, seven in MS60, ten in MS63, and fifteen in MS65, this 2009 Denver Lincoln Cent Early Childhood WDDR-020 targets specific log ends on the reverse cabin design. The Wexler Team identified hub displacement at the lower right of log end number 7, the right side of log end number 9, and the lower right of log end number 10 — three non-consecutive logs showing secondary impressions where ghost profiles extend from the primary cabin elements. The Early Childhood reverse depicts the Kentucky log cabin of Abraham Lincoln's birth, and each individually sculpted log end provides a fine design element susceptible to visible doubling. Unlike the consecutive-log pattern seen on some Early Childhood DDRs, WDDR-020 affects logs 7, 9, and 10 with a gap at log 8, creating an intermittent doubling pattern that reflects the specific geometry of hub displacement relative to each element's position. The modest but documented market values across four grade levels indicate established collector recognition, with premiums scaling from circulated through gem uncirculated condition. Die Markers: Obverse: A short, diagonal die scratch can be found between the upper E and R of LIBERTY. A small die gouge (dot) can be found between the bottoms of the B and E in LIBERTY. A small die gouge can be found WSW of the mint mark. Reverse: A short, vertical die gouge can be found to the right of the top of the N in UNITED. A die gouge can be found to the left of the bottom of the O in OF. A small die gouge can be found to the right of the center of the R in AMERICA.
