2009-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-018
Error
Description
Cataloged under UVC-3293 and DMR-020, the 2009-D Lincoln Bicentennial Early Childhood Cent DDR-018 exhibits medium spread to the southeast appearing as an extra log end on log number 10 counting from the bottom of the log cabin stack. The Early Childhood reverse design — one of four commemorative reverses for the 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial — depicts the log cabin birthplace of Abraham Lincoln in Hardin County, Kentucky. Three die stages are documented. Stage A is early die state, unconfirmed. Stage B is early to mid-die state, confirmed, with a light die crack developing southeast from the M of the RM designer's initials; two die cracks on the forehead; and a die crack in the hair — providing multiple reliable Stage B obverse markers. Stage C is late die state, unconfirmed. The confirmed Stage B forehead and hair cracks, along with the RM-area crack, provide obverse attribution anchors when the subtle southeastern log-end doubling may be reduced on circulated examples. The 2009-D was struck in copper-plated zinc at the Denver Mint.
