2009-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-011

Description

Denver Mint counterpart to the Philadelphia DDR-011, this 2009-D Lincoln Cent variety shows light spread to the south as an extra log end on log number 10 counted from the bottom of the Early Childhood log cabin reverse. While the Philadelphia version affects four log ends, this Denver die produced a more localized anomaly limited to a single log, reflecting a lesser degree of hub misalignment during die production. Cataloged by VarietyVista with UVC-2784 and DMR-013, the Stage A early die state carries distinctive diagnostic markers: die gouges between the N and T of CENT on the reverse, with the obverse also in early die state. Stage B mid-die state and Stage C late die state remain unconfirmed. The 2009 Bicentennial Early Childhood reverse by Richard Masters and Jim Licaretz depicts Lincoln's Kentucky log cabin birthplace, and the stacked logs of the cabin wall are particularly sensitive to hub misregistration, generating recognizable extra log end signatures. The die gouges between NT of CENT provide a reliable secondary confirmation point for identifying this specific die pair in hand.
