2009-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-009
Error
Description
Light northeast spread on the 2009 Denver Mint Lincoln Cent Early Childhood reverse produces an extra log end at log number 8 from the bottom of the cabin. The Early Childhood design, one of four special reverses issued in 2009 to commemorate the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth, depicts the Kentucky log cabin where young Lincoln spent his formative years. The stacked horizontal logs of the cabin wall create natural reference lines that reveal even subtle hub displacement, making this reverse type productive territory for doubled die researchers. DDR-009 is cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-2782 and DMR-011. Stage A shows the reverse in early die state with a die crack already developing on the obverse forehead at what VarietyVista terms early-to-mid die state. Stages B and C are unconfirmed. The presence of an obverse die crack at Stage A suggests this die showed signs of stress from the outset, and future documentation of later stages could reveal more extensive cracking. The 2009 bicentennial cents were produced in lower quantities than typical years, making their varieties somewhat more scarce in circulation finds.
