Description

Documented by VarietyVista on the 2008 New Mexico State Quarter, DDR-002 shows a very strong spread on the middle of the right side of the lower left upright and an extra partial middle upright of the Zia Pueblo sun symbol, the sacred Zia Nation emblem that dominates the New Mexico reverse. Attribution codes are UVC-1735 and DMR-006. Die stages span three phases: in Stage A, both reverse and obverse are early die state. Stage B brings the reverse to early-to-mid die state, with a die crack developing from the Q of QUARTER through the bust to the D of DOLLAR, also at early-to-mid die state. Stage C, unconfirmed, is listed as late die state. Doubled die varieties on State Quarters arise through the same hubbing process as all denominations: misalignment between successive hub impressions is permanently recorded in the die and appears on every coin struck from it. The 2008 New Mexico quarter was issued as part of the 50 State Quarters program in clad composition. UVC-1735 and DMR-006 are the primary attribution anchors, with the Zia symbol doubling and the Stage B bust-to-DOLLAR die crack the most visible identification features.
