Description

DDR-003 on the 2008-P Lincoln Memorial Cent was struck in copper-plated zinc in the final year of the Lincoln Memorial reverse design, which ran continuously from 1959 through 2008 before being replaced by the four Bicentennial reverses in 2009. The reverse doubling is a light spread to the east producing an extra column No. 6 visible from the knee to the foot — an additional colonnade element within the Memorial architectural design, one of the most collectible diagnostic types in the Lincoln Memorial Cent series. Catalogued by VarietyVista under die pair UVC-3256, DMR-005, four die stages are documented: Stage A is Early Die State. Stage B is defined by a die chip around the upper bay No. 1, a light die crack on the forehead, and a die crack in the back of the hair — chipping and cracking across both the reverse and obverse portrait simultaneously. Stage C is Middle Die State. Stage D is Late Die State. Cross-reference: VarietyVista DDR-003, UVC-3256, DMR-005; final year Lincoln Memorial reverse.
