Description

Displaying strong spread to the south that creates an extra central doorway roof on Monticello, this 2008-P Jefferson Nickel VDDR-002 is among the more visually prominent doubled die reverse varieties for the return-to-Monticello design. The UVC and DMR codes remain pending assignment. Three die stages are documented: Stage A with both reverse and obverse in early die state; Stage B at mid-die state (unconfirmed); and Stage C in late die state (unconfirmed). The extra doorway roof — where a secondary image of the architectural roofline appears below the primary one — serves as an immediately recognizable diagnostic under moderate magnification. The 2008 Jefferson Nickel marked the return to the Monticello reverse after the 2004-2005 Westward Journey designs, now paired with the new forward-facing obverse portrait introduced in 2006. Strong southward spread on Monticello's central structure creates one of the most accessible doubled die diagnostics in the modern Jefferson series, as the clean horizontal lines of the architecture amplify even modest hub displacement.
