Description
The 2008 (D) Presidential Dollar - Andrew Jackson, Position A represents a Denver Mint issue from the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 61.1 million examples, making this ranked 13th of 21 mint variants by mintage, with 5% of production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The seventh President (1829–1837), Andrew Jackson was a populist war hero celebrated for his victory at the Battle of New Orleans in 1815. Ironically, Jackson was a fierce opponent of paper currency and central banking, yet his image appeared on the $20 bill for decades. The second year honored Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Jackson, and Van Buren. Mounting complaints about edge lettering legibility led Congress to move "In God We Trust" to the obverse starting in 2009. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $5 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #394855.
